How Big Should a TV Screen Be & How Many Feet From the Viewer?
-
It Depends on the Room
-
Smaller televisions work best in smaller rooms, according to Crutchfield. Choose a 26- to 32-inch TV for most bedrooms, kitchens and other similarly-sized rooms.

Personal Preferences Play a Part
-
A general rule is to measure the distance from the viewer to the TV and use this measurement to determine the best size for the TV. However, this formula differs somewhat depending on who you ask. Multiply the screen size by anywhere from 1-1/2 to 3 to get an estimate of how far away you should sit from the TV.
Bottom Line
-
Multiply screen size by 1-1/2 and then again by 3 to get a range of how far away you should plan for seating. Make your final decision based on the results of these calculations, the size and setup of the room and your own personal preferences for a TV screen on the small or large side.
