Dawn Does Kill Ticks

According to the doctors at Village Pediatrics of Chapel Hill, a safe, natural way to kill ticks is to place a small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid directly onto the tick. After 10 or 15 minutes, the tick will be dead and can be successfully disposed of.

It Won't Be Enough

While Dawn is an effective a killer of ticks, it has not proven to be a useful repellent. Therefore, to spray an entire lawn with Dawn would do little more than kill the tick with whom the liquid happened to come into contact.

Bottom Line

To kill all the ticks with Dawn even in a small yard would likely require gallons of the liquid and would likely severely harm the yard's vegetation as well, making it an unwise proposition. If you're concerned about ticks, consult a local pest control expert for advice on an effective insecticide.
