What Is a Good Distance to Plant a Tree From Your House?
-
It Looks Nice in Landscaping
-
A small tree can add visual interest to a landscaped bed in front of a house if placed as close as 6 feet from the foundation and if the the right type of tree is planted.
-
It Can Crowd the Foundation
-
If you plant a young tree within 6 feet of a house and then it grows 25 feet high, you run the risk of the roots cracking the foundation or the branches rubbing against the side of the house. Trees that grow up to 25 feet high should be at least 15 feet from any building.
Bottom Line
-
You can plant small trees and shrubs 6 feet away from your home, but you must make sure they will stay small. Medium trees should stay 15 feet or more from a building and large trees at least 30 feet away.
