How Long Should One Wait Between Tanning Bed Sessions?
-
Be Health-Conscious
-
Tanning is not looked on favorably by doctors and dermatologists, but there are ways to tan more safely. Generally, it is best to wait at least 48 hours in between tanning sessions. Most tanning salons already have strict safety guidelines, and a few will allow you to tan two consecutive days in a row, regardless of your skin type or desired hue. The real dangers of over-exposure come from unmonitored tanning by people who have beds in their house or in other unsupervised areas.

Every Body Is Different
-
A person's potential to tan or burn is strongly tied to that person's genetics, skin tone, skin type, diet and overall health. In general, lighter-skinned people, especially those with freckles, do not tan well and tend to burn, while people with darker skin tones can fairly easily lighten or darken as they wish. This isn't to say that a proper tanning regimen can't help light-skinned people tan, but they should be extra cautious and limit the amount of UV rays that they are exposed to at a time.
Bottom Line
-
You need to be smart and aware of the consequences of tanning. Besides waiting at least 48 hours between sessions, wear eye protection and lotion that will help minimize burning. Consult a representative who can identify your skin type and help develop a tanning regimen that fits it. Also, be on the lookout for any signs that the tanning is affecting your skin negatively. If you do everything right, yet still have trouble tanning without burning, consider a spray-on tan.
