How Often Should I Give My Leopard Gecko Mealworms?
-
The Baby Gecko
-
Baby geckos, like adolescent humans, need a diet containing protein in order to grow. These little lizards should be fed once per day, every day. Mealworms should also be dusted with a calcium or multi-vitamin powder during this period.
-
The Adult Gecko
-
Adult leopard geckos should be fed once every other day. A gecko is considered an adult once it is fully grown, from 6 to 9 inches. Most fully-grown reptiles do not require food every single day.
Bottom Line
-
Feed your gecko according to its age. It will eat around 5 to 10 mealworms (or 3 to 5 crickets) per meal. Take uneaten food back out of the cage after about 15 to 20 minutes of feeding. If your adult gecko is unusually large or small, it might eat a bit more or less in quantity. Unlike a few other domesticated animals, reptiles tend to only eat what they need.
