How Much Weight Should I Be Able to Lift for My Age/Height/Weight?
-
Practice makes perfect
-
Weight training, like any discipline, requires practice. As you do more training and practice of your form, you will be able to lift more weight. That being said, many people will find that genetics will play a big role in how much muscle they can build and thus how much they can lift.
-
Consider your age
-
Experts at the Bodybuildingforyou.com website argue that children should not lift weights--certainly until they are of an age where they are producing testosterone. To this end, there should be no worries about how much weight you are lifting whilst at a young age. Once physical maturity has been reached, the athlete looking to lift weights will be of a height and weight which enables development in the amount of weight that can be lifted.
Bottom Line
-
While you are young and developing your body, the amount of weight you can lift is immaterial. Depending on the rate of your own personal growth, there will be a discrepancy between your lifting abilities and that of many of your peers. When you reach physical maturity, depending on your final height, the amount of weight you are able to lift will be governed by practice and genetics, rather than how old you are.
