How Many Pages of Script Should a TV Movie Pilot Have?
-
Standard Script Length
-
A full-length feature film usually runs between 90 and 120 minutes. A rough scale for script length is one minute per page. So, a standard film script is 90 to 120 pages, which allows a full story arc.
-
TV Advertising Practices
-
An average commercial-network television show is 22 minutes of content for each half-hour of programming, which leaves eight minutes for advertisements each half hour Movies made for commercial TV usually run 120 minutes. In that time, there will be 32 minutes of advertising and 88 minutes of content.
Bottom Line
-
Your script should adhere to advertising practices and be as close to 88 pages as possible. Being within five pages of that, either shorter or longer, should be acceptable as well.
If the movie runs with no commercial interruption, such as on a cable subscription network, the number of pages should be equal to the number of minutes of actual content aired.
