According to Hewlett-Packard (HP), most HP ink does not have an expiration date. Most sources agree that as long as you store your cartridges properly---upright, in a room not too warm and out of direct sunlight---they will not go bad.

Some HP ink cartridges have an expiration date built into the cartridge and will stop working after a certain date, regardless of the ink's ability. You can manually override most of these restrictions by following the instructions provided when the ink expiration message pops up on your computer, but some cartridges will simply cease to work.

Check the HP website to find out whether your printer model uses ink cartridges that have an expiration date and no capacity for a manual overridde. As long as your cartridges are not for one of these printers, you should be able to stockpile as many cartridges as you like.
