Types of wood
Wooden horse fencing can be made from a wide variety of types of wood. Some woods are more readily available in different parts of the country, but common choices include pine, cedar and redwood.
Wooden horse fencing needs to be strong and weather resistant. The type of actual wood used is less important than making sure it was properly pressure-treated to withstand the elements. A high-quality wood will deteriorate in the same way a poor quality wood will if it's not pressure-treated.
The type of wood used to build a fence is not as important as making sure the wood has been properly treated to withstand the elements. According to agricultural research by Pennsylvania State University, pressure-treated wood fencing can last up to 25 years if properly maintained.
