What Is Good for Congestion Relief?
-
Over-the-Counter Medications
-
Many medicines exist for dealing with the symptoms of sinus congestion. They typically come in sprays, pills and liquids. Some example congestion relief drugs sold in major over-the-counter brands such as Tylenol or Afrin include phenylephrine, oxymetazoline solution and pseudoephedrine. All provide temporary relief, but are not designed to cure the cause of the congestion.
-
A Natural Remedy
-
However, a natural and increasingly popular remedy exists for dealing with the symptoms of sinus congestion. Oil of oregano contains a powerful active ingredient known as carvacrol, which the Peace Health Organization states is anti-microbial and effective against the bacteria and viruses that cause the common cold or the flu.
Bottom Line
-
The carvacrol found in oil of oregano provides a cure by actually killing the bacteria that cause the symptoms of sinus congestion. In this instance, the benefits of the natural remedy win out against the temporary relief found in over-the-counter medications. However, it is best to discuss all your medical needs with your physician.
