According to HP, "the shelf life of a print cartridge in an unopened package is approximately 2 1/2 years." To maximize shelf life, it's best to leave the cartridge in the container until you are ready to use it, and avoid exposing the cartridge to direct light for more than a few minutes at a time.

36 Months or More

According to Print Country, while a normal shelf life is about 24 months, a cartridge kept in a dark, cool, dry environment in its original packaging can potentially last longer than the normal 24 to 36 months.

Bottom Line

If you're planning on stocking up on ink cartridges, it is probably best to plan conservatively, and assume they will last between 24 and 30 months. If you really want to stretch your dollar, it is possible to make them last longer with special care.
