How Often Should You Replace the Recoil Spring on a Glock?
-
Replace Every 5,000 Rounds
-
According to Western Shooter, Glock recommends changing the recoil spring in the third-generation (GEN3) models after firing somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 rounds. True Pierce writes, "In a GEN 3 at 5,000 rounds the spring is worn out. The GEN 4 dual recoil springs have been tested at 5,000 rounds and found to be like new. Glock has not published new numbers for changing the recoil spring [in a GEN4]."
-
Replace Only as Necessary
-
There are a number of sources who say that you don't need to replace your recoil spring unless you start having misfeeding problems.
Bottom Line
-
If you are a law enforcement officer or other professional who carries your GEN3 or GEN4 Glock every day on the job, you should replace the recoil spring on your Glock after no more than every 5,000 rounds fired. If you're a sport or target shooter, there's probably no need to replace it until you begin to have misfeeding issues.
