  • What Happens With Debt Counseling When You File Bankruptcy?

Under bankruptcy law a person who wishes to file for bankruptcy must enter into debt counseling. Two separate sessions must be completed throughout the case. The first counseling occurs within 180 days before filing and the second occurs before the debtor obtains a discharge. The pre-filing counseling is known as credit counseling and the post-filing counseling is known as debtor education.
