Hip-hop dance instructors are responsible for teaching dance techniques to students of all ages and abilities. Hip-hop covers a broad spectrum of street dance styles from popping, locking, fusion, free style and street style. A hip-hop teacher may teach one specific style, such as body locking, or several. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) notes that most self-enrichment teachers are rarely salaried, full-time employees but are self-employed or complete a variety of part-time assignments at one time.
Dance therapists have a profoundly special job, as they strive to reach the hearts and minds of their patients in a way that other professionals geared at mental health and well-being cannot. Through creative movement, dance therapists encourage healing from traumatic events, while also assisting with diagnosis through movement evaluation. Whatever the task at hand, dance therapists are still relatively rare as a common profession, and yet those who are employed as one will attest to the powerful qualities that come from dance and soul searching.
