Prior to the arrival of the locomotive industry in Galesburg, Illinois, the town population was a meager 400. Fort Peck is a small town located in northeastern Montana named after Colonel Campbell Peck, who owned a trading company from 1867 to 1873. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers built the town in the mid 1930s to house employees during the construction of the Fort Peck Dam. The purpose of the dam was to help boost a falling economy during the Great Depression, and it provided more than 10,000 jobs. Whitley City, Kentucky, is the county seat of McCreary County. McCreary County courthouse is located there.
