Honduras has an interesting, and rich, history. The monuments dedicated to celebrating Honduran culture, its history and religion offer visitors a variety of tour and travel experiences. Originally settled by the Mayan Indians, Honduras one of the great early New World cultural centers. The country's Bay Islands were discovered by Christopher Columbus on his final trip, and also served as a favorite layover for pirates, including Harry Morgan. The Franciscan monks and Catholic Church built cathedrals in the mid-1500s, several of which still stand today.
