After years of use, abuse and exposure to the elements, the wiper arms on your vehicle will begin to lose their tension, which will eventually affect overall wiper performance. Obstructions that prevent smooth operation – such as snow and ice – can make short work of the wiper arms, effectively turning the steel splines of the wiper motor linkage into a drill, damaging the internal splines of the arm's soft aluminum base. Replacing a worn or damaged front or rear wiper arm for your 2001 Ford Windstar is an easy task that only requires simple hand tools.
Your 1988 Chevy S10 could have come equipped with a four-cylinder engine or one of two six-cylinder engines. The front wiper motor on your S10 rotates a slightly bent arm that leads to the rotation of your wiper arms. Your wiper motor has likely lasted most of the life of the truck, but like all components will eventually need replaced. Regardless of the engine and transmission setup, replacing the front wiper motor is the same.
Chevy's S10 Blazer may have been something of a Frankenstein at the time, but it's proven itself over and over again in the marketplace. While the Blazer itself may have gone out of production in 2005, there's no denying that it helped to set the template for mid-sized SUVs from either side of the Pacific. GM offered the Blazer with several different kinds of rear hatch -- one- and two-part swing-out and liftgate included -- but the simple glass hatch was the cheapest, lightest and most popular. Replacing the glass is very easy, requiring only a few minutes and basic…
The Vulcan 900 Classic LT was introduced in 2006. Although the LT was powered by a 903 cc V-Twin engine, it was -- and as of 2012, still remains -- the smallest model in Kawasaki's Vulcan cruiser lineup. The LT was intended as a light touring motorcycle, allowing riders to enjoy longer, reasonably comfortable, road trips thanks to the addition of a passenger backrest, saddlebags and a clear windshield. The windshield can be adjusted a maximum of two inches to suit taller riders. While the task is simple enough to be accomplished in a few minutes, it is not a…

Muntins are the pieces of wood, metal or vinyl that sit on the surface of your window. On older windows, the muntins hold the panes inside the window. On newer windows, the muntins are there for decoration and provide no real use. Whether you have older or newer windows, you can effectively replace the muntins and make the windows look as they did when first installed. Automobile putty has the same consistency as aluminum muntins when dried and keeps the panes thoroughly attached to the window.
Toyota equipped its 2004 Sienna truck models with front and rear articulated windshield wiper assemblies. The articulated fingers on the wiper blades hold the wiper inserts – which are the rubber blades -- while allowing pressure from the wiper arms to conform the wiper inserts to the curvature of the windshield. Over time, the rubber inserts degrade from exposure to the elements and no longer effectively clean the windshield. Replace the inserts with Toyota or aftermarket products.
Ford offered a power window regulator as optional equipment in the 1993 F-150 trucks. The power window regulator replaces the manual window crank with an electric motor controlled by switches on the door trim panel. Failure of the power window regulator can occur over time because of poor lubrication that increases friction within the system. The friction leads to an increased load and insulation breakdown within the motor. Bad motors are not serviceable and must be replaced to restore power window function.
The Protege arrived in the 1990 model year as basically a four-door version of Mazda’s existing entry-level vehicle, the 323. The base level for the 2000 Protege was the DX trim level, which came pretty much stripped down. The 2000 Protege’s side-view mirrors are of the manual variety in the base configuration. Whether you need to replace the entire mirror body or just the glass, installing a side mirror on a 2000 Mazda Protege DX is a relatively simple task, but the mirror glass does require one specialty tool
The power window motor and regulator are replaced as a unit on the 2005 Ford F-150. It uses a twin post cable type of system. The cables in the system are prone to failure more often than the scissors type of systems. Each regulator and motor combination is door specific, which means that the door that is getting the regulator must be specified when ordering. They are not interchangeable from one door to another.
The Pontiac Grand Prix’s history dates back to its original release as a two-door muscle car in 1962. Throughout its lifespan, the Grand Prix slowly morphed into a compact, family-oriented type of vehicle. The 1998 Grand Prix came standard as the four-door SE trim level, which included power windows. Each of the Grand Prix’s four doors has a power window regulator and motor that work together to raise or lower the window. Replacing the power window regulator and motor on the 1998 Grand Prix requires removing the door panel, but it is a straightforward task from there.
Pinstripes have been a popular addition to the sides of cars and trucks for many years. Most pinstripes grace vehicles in the form of vinyl graphic sets. Over time, the vinyl graphics begin to peel away and require replacement. Some vehicle owners may also fancy a change of design. It is relatively easy to remove old vinyl pinstripes, and adding new designs is a simple task that most do-it-yourself mechanics can complete successfully.
Car window tint is a method, either integral or retro-fitted, of blocking light from outside the vehicle to its interior. Integral tint is installed as a component of the glass during manufacture; retro-fitted tint is applied to the glass as a film after manufacture. Even clear glass blocks some light transmission, so a calibration of retrofitted tints must measure the resistance of the glass plus the film. The measurement is described in percentages.
The 1994 Toyota pickup was available in both two- and four-wheel-drive models. A 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine was the base engine, and a 3.0-liter V-6 was available as an upgrade for certain trim packages. The windshield wiper motor is inside the engine compartment, mounted directly to the truck's firewall. Replacing the motor requires precise measures to ensure proper fit and alignment of the motor to the wiper linkage.
If your LG washing machine begins to make a grinding noise or does not spin correctly, the tub bearing probably needs replacing. You can call an expensive appliance repair person to replace the bearing or, with a few common tools, you can perform the repair yourself. Disassembling the LG washer depends heavily on the model type you have. For best results, refer to your specific LG washer owner’s manual for proper disassembling instructions. In addition, be aware that trying to repair the washing machine without an LG-approved repair person voids the appliance's warranty.
The Ford F-150 began its production life in the 1975 model year as a fill-in between the F-100 and F-250. The 2005 F-150, just a year removed from a complete redesign, came in a wide array of body and mechanical configurations to allow buyers a wide selection to choose from . All trim levels of the F-150 , except the Lariat, came standard in a two-door configuration. Replacing the window regulator in the standard cab configuration, whether it is power or manual, is a straightforward process.
The Ford Mustang was introduced in the middle of 1964, and actually is called the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang. The 1995 Ford Mustang was available as a base model, Cobra and GT. The base engine in the 1995 Mustang was a 3.8-liter V-6 engine. The more popular 5.0-liter V-8 engines were available in all three 1995 Mustang models. The window motor on the 1995 Mustang is attached to the window regulator, which guides the window upward and downward. Please read the entire "Warnings" section prior to starting this project.
In 1994, the Impala officially returned to Chevy’s lineup as the Impala SS, which essentially is a high-performance Caprice Classic. After just three years, Chevy abruptly eliminated the Impala SS in 1996, along with the Caprice Classic. In 2000, Chevy reintroduced the new Impala, which was a front-wheel-drive, V-6-powered family car. Replacing the power mirror in the 2002 Impala requires removal of the door trim panel to gain access to the mirror’s fastening hardware, but is a straightforward task that most do-it-yourself mechanics can perform.
Installing energy-efficient windows is a good way for homeowners to save money on energy costs throughout the year. Dual-pane windows are made with two panes of glass with a 1/2- to 3/4-inch space between them in the frame. This construction allows a layer of air to act as an insulator, which prevents the transfer of heat between the interior of the home and the exterior. Though the dual-pane construction makes repairing a single glass pane more complex, you can still do it with the right techniques and tools.
Manufactured by Whirlpool Corp., the PAV3360 is a residential, top-loading washing machine from Maytag's Performa line of appliances. The machine uses a disc-like bearing, known as a thrust washer, to hold the clutch components to the motor shaft on the gear case. When the thrust washer starts to wear out, the appliance may emit a screech during the spin cycle. Replacing the thrust washer will correct the problem. However, due to the difficulty of the repair, you may wish to call a professional.
A Hotpoint oven door lifts off of its hinges, which fit into the bottom of the door. Since there are no other connecting pieces, the way to adjust the door is to lift it off the hinges. Adjustments are most likely necessary when the door won't open or close properly. Try removing the door and installing it to fix the problem. Otherwise, you may need to replace the hinges if reinstalling the door does not take care of the problem.
Whirlpool Duet front-loading washers are high-efficiency, large-capacity, residential appliances that offer multiple washing cycles and temperature settings. The rubber door cover on the Whirlpool Duet washer is what makes the tub watertight. If water has started leaking from the door during operation, the rubber door cover must be replaced. Replacing the door cover on a Whirlpool Duet washer requires the disassembly of the appliance cabinet.
The Kenmore Elite model 110.45872400 is a front-loading automatic washer manufactured for residential or industrial use. The washer tub is mounted inside the cabinet behind the door. If the tub is defective or damaged, the washing machine may not function properly. The washer cabinet must be disassembled to access the tub. Replace the faulty washer tub with a new part to restore the washing machine to proper working condition.
Chevrolet released the American-built S10 in 1982 as the replacement for the Isuzu-built LUV. By 2003, Chevy had mastered the art of mixing full-size truck capabilities in a compact pickup, and the S10 had become a success though it was nearing its end. The 2003 S10 and its standard 2.2-liter, 120-horsepower engine or its optional 190-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6 along with its slew of drivetrain options made it a popular choice for small truck shoppers. The wiper arms on the compact pickup are the connection point between the wiper blades and the wiper transmission and motor assembly. Replacing the wiper arm…
Chrome trim is present on many cars and trucks, both old and new. Removing the chrome trim from the door to replace it or paint underneath it may take a little time and the use of a few household tools. You can remove the chrome trim pieces off of a car door in less than 20 minutes without harming the paint beneath it or breaking the trim itself. You also may replace the chrome trim with original or new parts.
The part of a roll top desk that rolls up and down is called a tambour. It is constructed of half-round strips of wood secured to a piece of canvas that is hidden behind them. From the front, the tambour appears to be made of solid wood. Over time, the glue that holds the strips of wood to the canvas may become brittle, causing the strips of wood to separate from the canvas or the canvas to tear.
Sunlight and ultraviolet rays can damage a vehicle or make the interior extremely hot on sunny days. Window tint, a film applied to automotive glass, reduces the light and heat that comes through the glass. Some motorists also use window tint to enhance the look of their vehicles. Cutting the rear window tint for a vehicle is difficult. The processes of cutting the film and heat shrinking the film to fit are the most crucial steps for installing window tint. Use the outside of the window to create the cutout and then transfer it inside for installation.
Before you know it, that small chip in your windshield can spread into a car-wide crack. The key to treating a windshield crack is repairing it quickly; otherwise, a full windshield replacement is necessary. Several companies produce windshield chip repair kits that include a syringe, adhesive and apparatus to fill the crack. If this method seems too daunting, a simple home remedy may be enough to stop a chip from spreading and prevent the need for an immediate trip to the auto shop.
The windshield on your car probably is the most important but most forgotten part of your car to clean. Low visibility may not seem like a problem until you clean your windshield and see how clear it can be. A downside of cleaning the windshield is you may notice mineral spots all over that can’t be removed with regular glass cleaner. You can remove mineral spots from a windshield with a little work and a few products from an auto parts store.
A loud, knocking noise coming from the washing machine during the spin cycle is often caused by an unbalanced load of laundry. Opening the washer and redistributing the load can stop the noise, but if the noise persists, especially at the end of the spin cycle, a damaged or broken drive block is usually the culprit. Ignoring the noise could eventually cause irreversible damage to a Maytag washer’s transmission and motor. Replace the inexpensive drive block to avoid the expense of replacing the washer’s transmission, motor or the washer itself.
Atrium is a window company that’s been in business since 1948. They provide different window types including sliding windows. If your Atrium window isn’t sliding well, the tract could be dirty or the sliding portion may need adjustment. The most common problem with the sliders is that the window isn't placed at the proper height. Sliding Atrium windows have a screw for easy adjustment.
The 1998 Dodge lineup of trucks included the Ram, Dakota and Durango SUV. All three of these trucks have wiper arms that are held on by a pivot nut that attaches the arms to the rotating wiper pivot. Wiper arms can become rusted and bent over time, and replacement sometimes becomes the only option for repair. Wiper arms can be sanded and painted if they are not too rusted or corroded. You'll need a special tool to pull the wiper arms from the truck.
The FJR1300 is a sport-touring motorcycle produced by Yamaha, providing a modern, sportier option than the more classically-styled cruiser-like touring motorcycles. The FJR spans two distinct model generations, with the first generation spanning from 2001 to 2005, and the second generation beginning production in 2006. Aside from styling changes, the newer generation received an electronically-adjustable windshield controlled by a handlebar-mounted switch. Many FJR1300 owners replace the stock windshield with taller, more aerodynamic aftermarket windshields to reduce windblast and buffeting while traveling at speeds at or above 70 miles per hour. Replacing either generation's windshield is a fairly straightforward task requiring…
Window tint protects the interior of a vehicle from damaging solar rays. It also significantly changes the look of the vehicle. Black Magic window tint is an inexpensive product available in several grades, each with a different price range. Black Magic products are sold in the automotive sections of large discount chains and retail automotive outlets, as well as online. Applying Black Magic window tint takes just a few tools, most of which are supplied by the manufacturer.
A Kenmore flat top stove is a type of stove that has a single, smooth surface for its cooktop. This makes it easier to clean, but a flat top cannot be used with a gas fuel. This means that all flat top stoves are electrical, and use heating elements to produce their heat. These elements can become broken or damaged over time and need to be repaired.
Homeowners must control moisture inside their homes to avoid mold growth and structural damage. Leaking windows and window sills are a common cause of excess moisture inside homes. When south-facing windows develop water leaks during or after rain, it raises the humidity level in your home causing a damp uncomfortable feeling.
Leaks around a stucco house's windows occur for numerous reasons, including improper window installation and moisture trapped in the wall. Continuous moisture accumulation around the windows results in mildew and mold and can cause permanent damage to the structure surrounding the window if left untreated. Although a professional contractor may eventually be required to repair or replace a window, you can minimize the window leak by caulking the area around the window to prevent water from continuing to seep through.
Removal of interior finish materials such as flooring, steps and trim serves two purposes. It clears out the area where you're working in preparation for the installation of new materials, and if you're careful, it provides you with good used materials to use somewhere else. Particularly in older houses, being careful with the deconstruction of old flooring, steps and trim can yield valuable finish materials that you can reuse elsewhere or sell for a profit.
A Lattice ISP, such as the POWR1220, is used with a distribution system to convert power. To do this you will need a DC-to-DC converter. A power cable is used to connect the ISP POWR1220 to your DC-to-DC converter. However, there is also an internal power cable that is connected to a socket on the ISP circuit board and to the Digital Output port for the device.
The 2002 Silverado came in a wide array of sizes, cab designs and engine options. At the base level, there was the Silverado 1500 with a 200-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6. At the top end, the Silverado 3500HD had a 340-horsepower, 8.1-liter V-8 available. Regardless of vehicle and engine size, many components remained the same, including the washer fluid reservoir. Replacing this reservoir is the same process across all 2002 Silverados.
Bay windows offer wide angle views that flat windows are incapable of providing. The windows extend beyond a home's frame and can be used to house plants or window seats. Bay windows are manufactured as one piece that contains three or more windows. The frames are made from wood, vinyl or a combination of both. The steps to replace bay window glass vary for each kind of bay window.
Ice flows and dams can develop on your roof in the winter and can eventually lead to leaks in and around your window frame. Any leak in your home can cause wood rot as well as mold and mildew growth. Prevent the ice from developing in the first place by installing ice dam membranes around the window. Fix leaks that do occur by filling cracks on the window frame with caulk. Don’t make any repairs until the leak has stopped.
Replacing a side view mirror on a 1995 Ford Escort is a simple procedure. Factory replacement aftermarket mirrors are plentiful due to the demand and can be purchased at most local auto parts stores. They are surprisingly inexpensive. As a matter of fact, they not only carry original equipment manufacture style replacements, but they carry custom parts as well. The 1995 Escort simplifies the replacement of the power side view mirror by placing the control knob on the inside concealment cover over the retaining bolts.
A top-loading washing machine may have a lid lock installed so that you can’t open it when the washer is agitating and spinning. That helps prevent injuries. The lock consists of two parts: a tab on the lid and a switch on the main washer housing or cabinet. When you close the lid, the tab strikes the switch and secures the lid in place. If one of the lock’s components breaks, it must be replaced, or else your washer won’t operate fully.
The tub in your GE washer is held up by suspension rods that allow it rotate in the unit without touching the sides. Depending on the unit, your rods have a black, yellow or green end. The yellow and green rods are located in the back of the unit. A sign that you need to replace the rod is that the tub doesn’t sit level in the unit. Instead, the tub leans to one side because the suspension rod isn’t supporting it there. Replacing a green suspension rod varies depending on the model of GE washer, but in general you…
The main component of your washing machine, the tub, is held up by suspension rods that keep it from falling to the bottom of the unit. When your tub leans to one side or isn’t level, it’s a sign something is wrong with your rods. Replacing the rods can vary depending on the model and style of the washer, but generally, you just thread each new rod through the opening on the top and attach it to the tub.
Window dealers sometimes refer to tempered glass as safety glass, because of the additional strength and heat-resistance that tempered panes offer. You may need to install replacement windows with tempered glass to meet local safety standards. Such standards may require you to have tempered windowpanes in some, or all, areas of your home due to the location of the windows or the potential for fire damage.
When drawing the silhouette of the side view of a child there are going to be a few things you want to keep in mind. Draw a silhouette of the side view of a child with help from an artist in this free video clip.
The 2001 Hyundai Elantra is equipped with a 2.0-liter dual overhead cam in-line four-cylinder engine. The Elantra is available as a four-door sedan, four-door hatchback or four-door station wagon. The electric windshield wiper motor on the Elantra can be replaced by the DIY mechanic for a substantial savings over having a repair done in a shop. Best of all, no special tools are required to do the job.
When you are running your General Electric washer, you may encounter a problem where the washer tub is loose and bangs against the sides of the appliance, making a loud sound. A loose washer tub could be due to a broken spin bearing, which is a metal part that spins around the axle of the drive shaft within the tub’s spin basket. You can manually remove this bearing at any time and replace it with a new part, which can be ordered from the GE manufacturer or an online retailer.
