    The British Open or The Open as it is commonly known is the oldest golf major tournament and was first played in 1860. The competition itself is played over four rounds totaling 72 holes. The cut is after two rounds or 36 holes, leaving the top 70 players on the scoreboard to battle for the title during the final two rounds.
