    Pockets may be knit top down or bottom up. Top down pockets, when being placed in a sweater, can be attached by picking up stitches from the existing garment. If the knit pocket will be placed in a woven garment, the pocket lining will need to be stitched to the pocket rim. In this case, knitting the pocket from the bottom up minimizes bulky seams which might show on the front of the garment.
