1.
Get out a brown paper bag and a hoodie that fits the child. Fold the hood in half and trace around it.
4.
Cut out four hood pieces. I'm using a plush knit velvet for the hood and the lining, but you could line the hood with satin if you prefer.
5.
Now it's time to to create a template for the neck. Tuck the hood inside the sweatshirt and trace the outline of the neck.
6.
Fold the fabric in half and lay the neck template on it. Cut from the edge of the neck template, out to the edge of the fabric.
12.
Pin the hoods together along the outside edges, right sides together. Stitch together, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
15.
Pin the hood to the cape, matching the edges of the hood to the marks on the cape and the center seam of the hood with the center back of the cape. Stitch the hood to the cape.
17.
Fold the 1/2 over at the edges of the cape, encasing the edge of the hood. I used a zig-zag stitch.

This is the cutest cape, ever! And so much more durable than what you get at the costume store or target... Definitely something that will last many dress-up days!
