First, use a comb to part the hair in front how you intend to style it. Separate the back from the sides, making a line from the crown to behind the ear.

Begin at the nape of the neck. Part off the first row and take a square section for your first curl. Smooth the ends together to make a point.

Roll the ends up to the strand to form a circle. Roll it up to the scalp until the circle sits right on top of the square base. Keep the ends pinched between your thumb and index finger.

Keeping the ends pinched between your thumb and index finger, use a single prong metal curl clip to clip the curl into the base.

Take another section, same size as the previous, and roll the curls the opposite direction. Continue alternating this way throughout the entire head to vary the curl pattern

Continue to the sides. I rolled most of the front away from her face because we will be pulling the sides back.

The fringe is my favorite place to get creative with this. Shorter bangs can be a little more difficult to set but they look awesome when its all said and done. We're going to brush these smooth but you could also leave the curls set for a more dramatic effect.

If you have access to a bonnet dryer setting the hair should only take about 20 minutes. Otherwise, have patience while this air dries completely. You can also speed up the process with a diffuser on a blow dryer set to low.

Test a few curls to make sure they are dry all the way to the ends before removing all the clips. I work in the order I put the clips in to make sure I get them all out.

You can stop here, or pin a few curls up to create a unique vintage style. Choose a section of curl where you would like to make an accent and brush through.
