Grab the loose ends and wrap them up behind the iron and over the top next to the clamped section.

Keeping the iron in it's original, upright position slowly pull the flat iron out through the length of the hair at a 90 degree angle to the head.

Alternate the curl pattern to create a more natural look by sliding out slightly from the scalp, rolling the iron a quarter turn toward the scalp, and flipping the tail under the iron and back towards the scalp again before sliding through the ends.
