I like to use a no-poo cleansing conditioner. It feels strange because it doesn't lather but it really helps my hair curl up more. Also, I start styling while my hair is still as wet as possible without making a mess.

I use a mousse but curling cream or gel might work better depending on your hair type. Look for something with a soft to medium hold.

Flip your head over and gently squeeze the product into your hair. Be careful not to run your fingers through it or break up the strands

Choose a few straight pieces on top of your head and around your face. I usually do 4-6. Roll them from the ends up and clip to create a pin curl. Now step away from the mirror and keep your hands out of your hair until it has air dried completely. No matter what, don't touch it.

You can break up any obvious straight chunks with 1 or 2 flat iron curls. Take small pieces and twist the strand before you curl it to keep a more natural look

Work the dust into the roots with your fingertips and watch it grow. I like to call this "ruffling my feathers".
