Many thanks to the hundreds of people who entered eHow’s very first eHow Knowledge Guru Contest, where we challenged you to tell us the #1 way families can enjoy this summer for under 50 bucks.
We received hundreds of ideas, including picnics at local beauty spots, scavenger hunts, barbecues, yard sales, camping, family dance classes and raising money for charity. But it wasn’t up to us who would win—you and your friends voted for your favorites, and now we’re pleased to announce that the winner of the contest and eHow’s first Knowledge Guru is … Jamie Price!
Here’s the entry than won her a $300 Amazon gift card:
“First, go to Ace Hardware or Lowe’s and buy a long piece of thick plastic sheeting (this will be your slip and slide for way less than if you bought an actual slip and slide). Spray it down with cold water and position it on a hilly area of your lawn. That will be fun for adults and kids.
Then buy at least 2-4 watermelons (depending on how many people are coming to party) and have watermelon seed spitting contests—who can spit it the furthest and such. Award prizes accordingly. You could also do a fishing type of game with a sheet and a bamboo pole/fishing pole (no hooks of course): Just use a clothespin to attach the prize after they have cast the line over a sheet with a clothespin.
Cook hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill and have everyone bring a side dish, chips and things like potato salad.”
The four runners up who submitted the next most popular entries were:
Debbie Gottschalk
Sharon O’Brien-Huey
Jeanette Wilding
Eric Wilborn
They each win a $25 Amazon gift card.
Don’t worry if you missed out on this contest, as there will be three more chances to win that $300 Amazon gift card and runner-up prizes over the coming weeks. The next seasonal challenge will be posted to our Facebook page on Monday, May 23, with five days to submit your answer.
Congratulations to the winning entries—and we hope Jamie enjoys being eHow’s first Knowledge Guru!
