Clinical depression is a serious medical condition that adversely affects a person's thoughts, feelings and ability to function. While depressed individuals often exhibit abnormal brain functioning and chemical imbalances, researchers are cautious about stating whether the depression is a cause of these changes or a result of these changes, according to author and psychologist Prentiss Price.
