Managing our beaches is an important part of protecting our coastal shorelines. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is in collaboration with federal, state, and local departments in creating projects to restore any imbalances that occur through nature or man.
Rockport, in Aransas County, is located on the Texas Coastal Bend along with Kleberg, Nueces, and San Patricio counties. Counties along the Coastal Bend are home to local beaches that form Mustang and Padre Islands and provide miles of recreational activities. Though typically crowded during peak seasons, Texas beaches are open year-round and provide relaxing getaways even during the off season.
Aransas Pass, Texas, sits on Redfish Bay, 20 miles north of Corpus Christi. It is linked through a 6-mile causeway to Mustang Island, home of Port Aransas. In the early 20th century, Aransas Pass served as a fishing port, home to a large fleet of shrimp trawlers.
