One of the most physically demanding rodeo events is bareback riding. Riders must stay on a bucking bronc while spurring for eight seconds. They have only the rigging to hold on to. The Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) has certain regulations regarding a bareback rider's equipment to ensure the safety of the horse and cowboy.
Rodeo began with contests between neighboring ranch cowboys in the late 1800's to see who could ride the wildest horses or rope the best.
