Although many products in the Adobe family of graphics software, such as Photoshop, have a crop feature to remove all unwanted portions of an image, this feature is absent in Illustrator, the vector graphics software. However, you can still crop the art board in Illustrator simply by resizing it; any content left outside of the art board will not be displayed when the document is printed or exported to a different format.
You can delete objects hanging off of Illustrator's art board by selecting them and pressing the "Delete" key. But creating a clipping mask instead of investing time in deleting a bunch of lines and shapes may be a better idea. After you create and apply such a clipping mask, the items hanging off of your art board will be hidden from sight -- and you won't be able to print these items once the mask is applied and your file will appear neater.
