Aphids are soft-bodied nutrient-sucking pests that prey on the foliage of a wide range of plants. Finding aphids in dirt suggests that nearby plants are receiving damage. Signs of aphid damage on plants include yellowing foliage, defoliation, stunted growth and curling leaves. Often gardeners will notice a sticky substance secreted by aphids called honeydew that may be covering dirt or plants. It is important to kill aphids on dirt to protect nearby plants or remove pests from the area for planting.
There are many effective types of pesticides used for ant infestation. Precautionary steps must be taken in order to prevent an occurrence of accidental toxicity effects and create a possible health hazard. While some ant poisons may have minor toxicity impact internally or externally on the body, some pesticides may possess cancer causing ingredients which are harmful if the poison comes into direct contact with the skin or if it is ingested.
