Recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1934, Corgis have been bouncing their way into dog lovers’ homes for centuries. The American Kennel Club has breeding guidelines, or standards, for each breed of dog that it recognizes. Breeders are encouraged to breed animals that fall within guidelines to preserve the qualities that make each breed distinct and desirable. Each breed will have guidelines that are unique to it, such as size, coat and gait. There are a number of categories under these guidelines.
