Driving under the influence of alcohol in Alabama can bring serious criminal consequences, including fines and jail time. In addition to that, most states typically impose license restrictions in DUI cases. These license suspensions are not considered criminal punishments, and are imposed in all DUI cases in Alabama.
In Alabama, a person who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol can be arrested for DUI if he shows signs of impairment, even if his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is lower than that allowed by the state (a person with a BAC of .08 is considered intoxicated and will be arrested). A commercial driver must have a BAC under .04; daycare workers, school bus drivers and drivers under the age of 21 must be under .02. Jail time, fines and treatment programs will be ordered for the arrested party by the courts.
