Fishing is a great way to relax and be at one with nature.

Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, is aptly named. The state has a veritable smorgasbord of fishing cabins and resorts sprinkled throughout the state that range from rustic to luxurious. In Minnesota, you can fish for perch, Northern pike, largemouth bass, walleye and pan fish, among others. Some of Minnesota's resort and fishing locations also offer golfing, playgrounds for the kids and amusement parks.

  1. Resort Accommodations

    • In addition to stunning views of the lake or woods, many of the resort-style accommodations offer air conditioning and/or ceiling fans, full bathrooms with tubs and showers. The kitchens might come equipped with full-sized ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, dishes, silverware, and pots and pans.

Cabins might also include one or more fireplaces, a barbecue grill or fire pit. With floor plans that offer up to five bedrooms, some cabins can accommodate as many as 17 people. Many of the rentals include high-speed Internet connections and cable TV. Take a day off from fishing and play golf or relax in the sauna.

    Rustic Accommodations

    • For those who are looking for more of a "back-to-nature experience" but do not want to give up all of the modern conveniences, there are RV hookups available with concrete pads or motor homes rentals. Rentals run the gamut of motel room-type rentals to semi-private cabins, cozy one-bedroom cabins with open floor plans or campgrounds. Many of these cabins are open for activities year-round and are available for ice fishing in the winter months.

    For the Kids

    • Almost all of the fishing cabins and resorts offer a playground for the kids. The kids may also enjoy the petting zoo, a nearby amusement park, playing volleyball on the beach, swimming in the lake or in one a heated pool found on many of the properties. Older children might enjoy riding their ATV or ORV on the public trails, canoeing, hiking or jet skiing. In the winter months, they might like cross-country skiing, sledding or snowboarding.

    Family Activities

    • A variety of family activities can be enjoyed during your stay. Take the family to the Loon Festival, which is held each year in June near Lake Vermillion. This celebration boasts more than 300 exhibitors, a parade, live entertainment and ethnic food booths. Go kayaking with the family or on a paddle boat ride. See deer, osprey, ducks and eagles on a nature walk, or take a tour of the mines. Some resorts have game rooms with video games and pool tables for family fun.

    What's Nearby

    • There are convenience stores, gas stations, laundromats, restaurants, and movie theaters in close proximity to most of the resorts. Some of the services offered include fish cleaning and freezing. Some resorts offer free canoes and paddle boats and planned group activities such as cookouts and picnics, campfires and holiday celebrations throughout the year.
