Job Description for a Loaner Car Manager

Managers of rental car companies work in airports, car rental offices, bus terminals and train stations. The individual working in this position may start as a rental agent and advance to a management position after gaining experience and expertise in the role. The manager is responsible for ensuring a satisfactory experience by customers when renting a car or truck.

Job Responsibilities

The manager of a rental agency directs the activities of sales agents, schedules employees and completes reports for management. Managers must oversee the maintenance of the fleet, fuel costs and repair activities. The rental manager hires, trains and evaluates the performance of employees.

The manager may handle marketing and sales activities in the rental office, which includes coordination with the main office. The individual must work with the main office to develop and implement marketing strategies to improve sales.

Education and Experience

A loaner car manager must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Car rental agencies may require attendance in an in-house training program for managers. Some employers may require a manager have sales experience in a car rental office. College may not be necessary for employment as a manager, but it may enhance job and advancement opportunities.

Skills

Successful loaner car managers have strong communication skills to work with the public and employees. The manager must have leadership skills to direct the activities of others and lead the office in making improvements for increased sales.

Advancement

A car loan manager can advance to a regional manager position after gaining experience as a manager in a rental office. Regional managers oversee multiple offices in a geographic area. The manager may advance to an executive position with the main office after demonstrating ability and skill in the manager position.
