Quickbooks Accounting Certification
Intuit offers QuickBooks service providers the opportunity to receive recognition as experts through its Certified ProAdvisor program. To achieve ProAdvisor certification, participants must apply for membership to the program and pass an examination. Intuit offers online certification courses to prepare for the examination and recommends the program for people with prior knowledge of accounting principles and working knowledge of QuickBooks software. Certified ProAdvisor members receive benefits through the program and membership requires an annual fee.

Certified ProAdvisor members can post a profile on the Intuit website to advertise their knowledge and services as QuickBooks experts. Members can also add client ratings to their profile, to increase their expert standing. ProAdvisor members can receive continuing professional education credits through free advanced coursework. Members can use Certified ProAdvisor graphics to promote their services and membership includes unlimited calls to Intuit's technical support.
ProAdvisor Membership

As of November 2010, ProAdvisor annual membership costs $499. Membership includes the certification course, QuickBooks Accountant Plus software and QuickBooks Online essentials, a web-based version of QuickBooks.

Certification Types

Intuit offers QuickBooks certification, QuickBooks advanced certification, point-of-sale (POS) certification and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions certification. QuickBooks certification requires a working knowledge of lists, reports, registers and forms and the ability to manage accounts payable and receivable, create a data file and work with sales tax and payroll, among other skills. Intuit offers QuickBooks advanced certification for members who have already completed QuickBooks certification. Members must pass with a score of 85 percent or higher and complete continuing education requirements.
Members who want to offer training or setup services for clients can take the POS certification examination. POS certification requires familiarity with QuickBooks software and prior certification as a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. Intuit offers the Enterprise Solutions certification for people who want to provide training and setup services for clients using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions software. Prior to obtaining an Enterprise Solutions certification, the member must first complete certification as a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
Online Coursework

Members can access all certification coursework online. The nine courses include printable materials, simulations and quizzes to help prepare for the certification examination. Members are not required to participate in the QuickBooks coursework prior to taking the certification examination.
Examinations

The Certified ProAdvisor program does not require members to pass the certification examination on the first attempt. Members can take the online examination up to six times to meet certification requirements. Coursework and examinations remain available for members for one year during the membership period.
Membership Resources

Intuit provides a resource center for its Certified ProAdvisor members. Resources include course materials for clients to use in learning QuickBooks software and marketing materials to help members grow their service businesses. Marketing materials include press releases, tips about online and email marketing and templates for advertising, business cards, letters and brochures.
