The Average Salary of a House Painter
House painters specialize in painting with tools, such as brushes and rollers. House painters are responsible for preparing the surface before painting by removing old paint from the walls. These workers blend colors or oils to get the desired custom color requested by their clients. Painters are also known as construction and maintenance painters, according to the Department of Labor.

The mean hourly wage for construction and maintenance painters was $17.94 and the mean annual wage, or average annual salary, was $37,320, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2009. Median annual wages for construction and maintenance painters ranged from approximately $22,650 to $58,100. The lowest 10 percent of employees earn less than $22,650 and the top 10 percent of employees earn more than $58,100.
