Salary of an Investment Research Analyst
Investment research analysts, also known as financial analysts or securities analysts, research stocks, bonds and other commodities to help their client companies make investment decisions. This job requires at minimum a bachelor's degree, with a master of business administration (MBA) degree preferred. The salary of the highest-paid analysts can be more than three times the salaries of the lowest-paid ones.

As of May 2009, the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the median salary for investment analysts is $35.42 per hour or $73,670 per year, with the bottom 10 percent making $21.19 or $44,080 and the top 10 percent earning $67.00 or $139,350.

The areas with the greatest employment numbers may or may not the best payers. For example, the industry having the most employment is financial investments, which also boasts the highest salaries. However, the second-ranked industry for opportunities, management of companies and enterprises, is not in the top five for pay with its rate of $38.18 or $79,420. As for states, Delaware has the highest concentration of investment research analysts but not the best salaries at $39.17 or $81,480. It is followed by Massachusetts, which is in the top five for compensation. Finally, the city with the biggest concentration of employees is Boston, with wages of $46.45 or $96,620. It is not a top payer. On the other hand, second-ranked Bridgeport, Connecticut, is one of the best five for salaries.
