First Aid Online Training
Whether your job requires that you become first-aid certified or if you just want to be a helpful citizen, you can become first-aid certified quickly by taking first-aid training online. Online training is convenient, allowing you to pick and choose where you want to take the course and when. Several organizations are now offering first-aid training online, including the following.
-
About the Course
-
A two-hour basic first-aid course can be taken online that allows students to recognize an emergency, identify when to react and what actions they need to take. Topics covered can include injury prevention, breathing and allergic emergencies, bite and sting emergencies, hot and cold emergencies, wound and burn emergencies, pain emergencies and poison emergencies.
Venues Offering First Aid Online Training
-
First-aid training online is offered by numerous organizations, including the Red Cross, an organization founded in 1881 by Clara Barton; the American Heart Association, a non-profit that aims to promote healthy lives free of cardiovascular disease; and the American Academy of CPR and First Aid, which offers classes designed by U.S. board-certified and licensed medical doctors. Each course varies in price.

Benefits of Online First-Aid Training Courses
-
There are several benefits to learning first aid online. Online classes allow the student to review the course materials at the location and time of their choice. In addition, it opens up new opportunities to study with an organization that may not be physically close by. It is also less expensive because less time is spent in the classroom, which saves resources like paying for a building, electricity and a live instructor. Materials can simply be posted online to be accessed when needed. Additionally, if a student doesn't understand a first-aid concept, he can spend as much time as he'd like reviewing the materials until he grasps the information, unlike in a classroom setting, where the instructor's time is limited.
The Process
-
To earn basic first-aid certification, students must first register for an online course, followed by an online test. The final step includes attending a face-to-face skills session where they will perform the skills they learned online. If they pass, they will become certified. Some places charge extra for the skills sessions.
Additional Useful Information
-
In order to take an online course, students must have a computer with Internet access and a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. If a computer is not available at home, students can consider taking the course at a public library where public computers are available. When signing up for the course, most organizations prefer online payments using a credit card. For those uncomfortable with online purchases, some organizations will accept mailed or in-person payments. Some organizations will allow students 365 days from the time they register for the course to complete the session. However, once you login for the first time, the course must be completed within 72 hours. If it isn't, a one-time 72-hour extension will be granted, and if you still aren't finished, you will need to re-register and repay for the course.
