Prepare for the interview.

Interviews can be a nerve-wracking experience, but if you plan and prepare accordingly, you might find it to be a little easier. Preparing for an executive job interview can take many hours, including rehearsing, both alone and with others. Expect to be at the interview for several hours and expect to be interviewed by more than one person.

  1. The Interview Call

    • The phone rings, and it's from the company where you submitted your resume. They'd like you to come in for an interview. Not only do you need to find out the time and location, you also need to ask a few key questions that can help you thoroughly prepare for your executive interview. Ask the person setting up the interview the names of each person you will be interviewing with. Interviews for executive positions usually involve a few people. Find out the length of the interview as well. The length will help you better prepare your answers.

    First Impressions

    • First impressions are important for an executive interview and you want to come across as organized and detail-oriented. Bring a folder for each person who will be interviewing you. In the folder include your resume, cover letter and samples of your work. Sharing your work samples with those you are interviewing with set you apart from the crowd. They have something to remember you by.

    The Interview Questions

    • Practice makes perfect when it comes to preparing your answers for the interview questions. There are many sources online where you can find sample interview questions. Type about 20 different interview questions, and type your answers. Take this piece of paper with you everywhere. Practice in front of the mirror, in the shower, and driving to work. Have your friends and family mock interview you. The more you practice your answers, the better prepared you will be for the interview. Learn about the company you are interviewing with. You need to be knowledgeable of their practices and standards. Ask questions that show you know information about the company. Tie your answers to how you can help the company. Know their vision.

    Wardrobe

    • Appearance is crucial when it comes to an executive interview. Wearing a suit is a must. Pick a suit with neutral colors. To show your personality, wear a camisole for a woman or a tie for a man with a pop of color. Iron your clothing and make sure it has no stains, rips or tears. When you look polished, you come off as professional. Make sure your hair is neat, cover any tattoos and take out any visible piercings.

    The Day Before

    • Make your own mock interview. Practice the drive to the interview location. Find out how long it takes to get there. Dress up in your interview suit and practice your answers. Prepare yourself for all questions, you never want to be thrown for a loop. Always count to five in your head before answering a question. That way you can gather your thoughts. The most important thing to remember is to be yourself.
