Spiritual Development Training
Spiritual training development is a broad term that refers to becoming established in spiritual practice and the tenets of a particular religion or school of philosophy. There are many ways to accomplish this, including through schooling, online courses, encounter groups or church organizations. Depending on the type of training a person is seeking, he may choose one of the aforementioned venues or a combination of several to achieve his objective.

Significance
-
Most religions of the world have regarded spirituality as a critical part of the religious experience. There are, of course, those who do not feel the desire to participate in organized religion, but still desire a way to find inner harmony and a sense of oneness with the universe and nature. No matter what a person's objectives are for spiritual development training, there are numerous venues that can be utilized to achieve this goal.
History
-
Shamanism, a Native American religion that believes in the communication of man and the spirit world, and Buddhism, which embraces tenets that promote the purifying of the mind, are two of the oldest practiced types of spirituality in recorded history. Christianity is a religion with a deep focus on the spiritual aspect of life, and there are, of course, secular groups that promote spiritual development, such as the New Age movement. This shows that almost since time began, humans have expressed interest in acquiring a connection with the unseen and have had an awareness of entities more powerful than themselves.

Types
-
There are a wide range of study tools available for those interested in furthering their spiritual development. These include academic courses, focus groups, classes in meditation or self-realization, and even participation in Internet forums where the focus is increased spirituality. Religiously oriented colleges and universities also offer degrees in spiritual growth and esoteric studies.
Features
-
Self-evaluation is an important feature of spiritual development training for most people. Spirituality is generally pursued as an optional facet of education for most individuals; therefore, self-testing is commonly embraced by persons wishing to gauge their progress. Several sources exist for those looking for assistance with this endeavor, including the Spiritual Evolution Assessment Scale, developed by Doctor Dorothy Riddle, CMC (see Reference section).
Benefits
-
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine has given funds to support studies that are focused on the effect of prayer and spirituality on health and wellness. As of August 2010, one such study is focused on the possibility that spirituality has an effect on the immune systems of those who are terminally ill.
