Information on Hunting White Tailed Deer
When hunting white tails, several components must come together. Hunters must take care to understand all the rules and regulations for white tail hunting within their state. In order to avoid any fines, hunters should contact their local fish and game office well before deer season is set to begin.

Hunting Types
-
White tail deer hunting can be done in several different ways, for most states. Some hunters opt for regular firearm hunting. Other hunters prefer hunting deer using archery. Archers use weapons like a composite bow to hunt the deer, as opposed to using a gun. The third method of white tail deer hunting is known as muzzleloader hunting. Muzzleloading firearms use black powder or black powder substitute that is loaded into the gun muzzle.
Licensing
-
In order to hunt white tail deer, hunters aged 16 or older must possess a valid deer hunting license. Licenses can be obtained from local fish and game administrations. In many cases, there may be an application and licensing fee. Licenses last for one hunting season. In some states like Missouri, hunters can apply for lifetime permits.
Before obtaining a license, hunters usually must undergo special safety education courses. Once the safety training is complete, the hunter receives a certificate of completion. Once a license is obtained, hunters are entitled to a set number of deer kills for that license. In order to have more kills, a license needs to be purchased that gives the hunter the ability to bag more than the set number for the state. In some states, lotteries are conducted to see which licensed hunters will get extra licenses for the season.

Seasons
-
Hunting seasons for white tail deer differ from state to state. In general, white tail deer can be hunted during fall and winter across the country. Seasons vary depending upon the type of weapon used. For example, bow hunting of white tail deer has a different season from muzzleloader hunting. A separate season is in place for younger hunters, which enables them to accompany a licensed hunter on a deer hunt. In many cases, the deer hunting seasons may overlap.
Supplies
-
Hunters must provide their own supplies for deer hunting. This means they need their own weapons for the hunt, as well as material to transport the deer back home. Hunters are required to wear hunter orange in order to make them easily identifiable to other hunters who might be in the area. Some hunters opt to use a deer stand, which gives hunters higher ground to see any deer there may be. The use of deer stands, as well as any chemicals or bait to draw deer to an area, depends upon the state in which the hunt happens.
Restrictions and Violations
-
Each state has certain restrictions on white tail deer hunting, as well as punishments for violating these restrictions. For example, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission restricts the use of moving vehicles or aircraft for deer hunting. Many states restrict hunting within a certain proximity to urban areas. The Missouri Conservation Department notes that deer cannot be taken if a dog, live decoys, electronic calls or bait were used. The amount of deer taken per license can depend on whether or not the deer has antlers. Violations of state restrictions can be punished by fines or the loss of license.
