What Is the File Extension FPG?
Most FPG files are the product of game development software, which saves multiple map images (MAP) into a single FPG graphics file. If you have an FPG file that you'd like to open but don't have the game development software used to create the file, you still may be able to view it using graphics conversion software.

Although any file can be designated a certain extension by any computer user, the majority of files with the FPG extension are image files that have been created by one of two related game development packages. Most FPG files are image files created by DIV Games Studio, while other FPG files are image files created by Fenix Project game development software.

An FPG file created by DIV Games Studio or the Fenix Project is a composite of several individual game image files. When you create a map image for a game using the above programs, it is saved as a MAP file. If you have multiple maps for a single game then you can aggregate all of the individual MAP files into a single FPG file.
Opening With DIV Games Studio
-
One way that you may open an FPG file is by using the DIV Games Studio program. Support for the program was discontinued by Hammer Technologies in 2007, but as of July 2010 copies of version 1 of the software are still available online (see Resources).
If your FPG file was created using version 2 of the DIV Games Studio package, you won't be able to open the file using version 1 of the software.
Opening With Fenix Project
-
A less common yet similar version of the FPG file is associated with the Fenix Project, a Unix-based GNU project dedicated to reviving and expanding the now-defunct DIV Game Studio software. As of July 2010, the latest beta version of the software is available for free download from the Fenix Project website (see Resources).
Opening With a Viewer
-
If you do not have the development program that originally created your FPG file, it may be possible to convert the file to another format for viewing. XnView, a freeware graphic viewer, can be used to view FPG files created by both the Fenix Project and DIV Games Studio software (see Resources).
