Fedex Weight Restrictions
FedEx provides its customers a way to ship items of various shapes and sizes to both domestic and international locations. While FedEx accommodates a large number of items, certain weight and dimensional restrictions for its packages are imposed. These restrictions vary based on the service being used and the final destination of the shipment.
-
Overview of Services
-
FedEx provides shipping services to meet many requirements. Customers may ship anywhere in the world for a fee. The transit time varies from several days to same-day service. Customers sending heavier packages will pay a greater fee. A shipper who requires faster service will also pay more money.
Weight Restrictions
-
Packages shipped through FedEx U.S. Express, FedEx International Express and FedEx Ground cannot exceed 150 lbs. Packages shipped using FedEx Home Delivery service cannot exceed 70 lbs. Shipments sent using FedEx's flat-rate envelope cannot exceed 22 lbs.
-
Dimensional Restrictions
-
FedEx also places restrictions on the dimensions of the package used to send any shipment. Shipments sent using FedEx Express cannot exceed 119 inches in length and 165 inches in combined length and girth. Packages sent using FedEx Express to international locations cannot exceed 108 inches in length and 130 inches in total length and girth. Shipments sent using FedEx Ground or FedEx Home cannot exceed 108 inches in length and 165 inches in total length and girth.
FedEx Freight
-
Customers sending shipments over 150 lbs. may use FedEx's freight service. While FedEx's freight service can accommodate most shipments, shipments weighing more than 2,200 lbs. require approval prior to shipping. In addition, shipments more than 70 inches tall, 119 inches long or 80 inches wide also require written approval.
Packaging Guidelines
-
Customers using FedEx's shipping service must pack their shipments to meet certain requirements. Packages must be sufficiently padded on all sides to prevent damage during transit. In addition, packages weighing more than 75 lbs. must be marked with overweight tape. Customers requiring help with packaging may go to any FedEx store to purchase supplies.
