Above Ground Pool Pump Installation
If you own an above-ground pool, it is important to install and maintain a pool filter and pump assembly. Without a properly running filter/pump, you'll be plagued with dirty pool water that defeats the purpose of having a pool. An above-ground pool pump is not difficult to install. You just have to follow a few procedures to ensure a properly functioning pool pump. Does this Spark an idea?

Leveled Ground and Electricity Source
-
Whether the pump is stalled above or below the pool's level, it's very important to install and above-ground pump on level ground. Placing a pool pump on ground that is not level may cause the pump to vibrate. A vibrating pump may cause damage to the pump in addition to making loud unwanted noises.
In addition to putting it on level ground, make sure the pump is within reach of the electric source. Using an extension cord is not recommended. The high-voltage pool filter should be plugged directly into the electric source and connected to the grounding wire to prevent electric shock.
Pool Hose Adapters
-
Some pool pump installations require hoses that attached via a clamp while others require hoses that attach by screwing the hose to the pump. Fortunately, when it comes to above-ground pools, there are several adapters that can convert a clamp hose to a screw-on-pump assembly and visa versa. Adapters are usually inexpensive (about $5 or less per adapter). Make sure to have the appropriate adapters available if necessary when installing a pool pump.

Pump Housing and Motor Connection
-
Before installing the pump to the pool, make sure that the pump and the filter housing it are securely connected. The pump and pool housing are usually attached via a screw on connection. Use plumbers tape at the connection point to help prevent leaking.
Pump/Pool Connection
-
Connect the return hose to the pumps return spout to allow the clean water to return to the pool. Next, connect the skimmer hose to the intake on the pool pump. The intake is located on the front of the pump basket. Make sure to securely connect the hoses.
Vacuum Environment
-
Because cool pumps clean by creating a vacuum environment inside the filter housing, you must open the filter's air valve prior to operating the pump for the first time. The air valve allows trapped air to escape from the filter. After all the trapped air escapes, you will notice water spewing from the air valve. Once water starts to escape through the air vile, it is time to close the valve to efficiently operate the filter and pump.
