She must be certified as a nurse midwife, clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or certified registered nurse anesthetist. Registered professional nurse applicants must hold a degree from an approved program. Continuing education credits must be earned during each two-year licensure period. Licensed practice nurse applicants must complete a practical nursing education program.

    Examination

    • Registered professional nurse and licensed practical nurse applicants must complete an examination. A pass grade must be achieved on the National Council Licensure Examination for the respective license being sought. The examination requirement may be waived if the applicant possesses a license in another state or she was previously licensed in Illinois.
