Senior Designer Job Description
Different jobs have different roles for a senior designer. A senior designer is basically in charge of the design team in a company. A senior designer’s job is to ensure that the organization creates good designs which are attractive and meets the requirements of the customers. Most designers work as either graphic designers or website designers.

Education and Qualifications

A senior designer requires formal education depending on his field of practice. He should therefore have a Bachelor of Science degree with a specialty in Web Design, or a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design or its equivalent. It is important for a senior designer to have work experience working for a large company. He should have at least eight years of experience working as a Web designer. Experience is also required in dealing with advanced design, HTML, JavaScript, as well as CSS. It would be an added advantage to have knowledge in Web design standards, DTP and Web layouts. Use of Macromedia and Adobe should not be a problem as well as coding by hand using HTML and PHP. A senior graphic designer should be proficient in the use of Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator.

A senior designer should be able to create designs for the company, maintain and also evolve all the existing brands. A senior designer should be able to keep up with current trends even when creating new designs and also come up with ideas on how to promote the work he has done. He also should be able to design all his promotional banners and other materials that could be used by the company.

The senior designer should possess good leadership skills as he leads a team of other designers. A senior designer should be a leader and have excellent skills in working with a team. He should also be very creative as well as commercial and be able to come up with solutions to problems quickly. Strong communication as well as software design skills are a must have. He should have excellent presentation skills and should have a keen eye for details.

A senior designer works in a fast-paced, ever-changing and high-pressure environment. He should therefore be able to handle stressful conditions and be self motivated and have initiative.
Compensation

According to PayScale, the basic salary that a senior designer earns ranges from $31,850 to $46,386. This is largely dependent on experience and the level of education that he has attained. The higher his education level, the more he is sure to earn.
