Portable Sheds & Storage Units
Portable sheds and storage units are a good way to get clutter out of the house and to store seasonal items. Because portable sheds and storage units come in so many styles, the quality of the portable shed construction becomes a key factor in whether or not to invest in one. Does this Spark an idea?

Function
-
Before purchasing a portable shed, determine its primary function. Most people purchase portable sheds for storage, but they may also serve as hobby rooms, offices, art studios or any other function a room might have. If the shed’s primary purpose is storage, it doesn’t need windows. Electricity is optional if the shed will be used in daylight hours. Plumbing is not necessary at all. However, if the portable shed is an office or studio, electricity and plumbing are probably necessary.
Types
-
The construction of portable sheds and storage units can take place on the building site. The foundations of these buildings are set on wooden or steel beams that allow for easy movement. Other types of portable sheds and storage units come pre-built from the factory. All they need are a foundation of concrete or gravel to be set on. A third type of portable shed is the modular type. It comes as a kit, which the owner puts together by assembling the floor, erecting the walls and adding the roof.

Features
-
It’s possible to customize portable sheds and storage units. While many storage sheds offer simple rectangular floor plans, it’s possible to add dividers to a larger storage shed to set up individual rooms. Windows are another popular option. The roof style may vary to give the building a customized look. The building may be made of steel or wood with maintenance-free exterior siding.
Size
-
A pre-constructed building must be within the legal tow limits on your state’s highways. Site-built sheds and modular buildings don’t have that restriction, but they all must meet your community’s building codes. A delivery truck must also have enough room to deliver a prefabricated building to your site.
Site Preparation
-
In order to set the building, the ground must be level. Depending on the type of portable shed construction, there must be a concrete pad, concrete blocks or level gravel for the building to rest on. Plumbing and electrical wiring should be in place before the building is set.
