Gaming Chair Information
Video games have been around for decades, and over the years the games have evolved allowing for more interactivity than ever before. Several accessories have been developed recently to further immerse gamers into the worlds created by their video games, including joysticks that simulate plane or helicopter control panels, virtual skateboards, racing wheels and even gaming chairs.

Basics
-
Gaming chairs are just as their name suggests: chairs designed almost exclusively for use when playing video games. These chairs are manufactured by numerous companies and usually do not have legs like traditional chairs, relying instead on a rounded bottom that allows the chair to rock back and forth. They are designed to allow the gamer to be seated at eye level with the television, giving her the best possible view.
Materials
-
Gaming chairs are made from a variety of different materials, with basic chairs being composed of standard polyester cloth while other sleeker chairs are made of leather or vinyl. Vinyl chairs have the added ability to better withstand spills from fluids like sodas that may be used during gaming. The chairs also come in dozens of different colors with many different patterns depending on the gamer's preference. Some may be themed to match certain games or systems; for example, an Xbox 360-themed chair may be white with lime green trimming.
Accessories
-
Advanced gaming chairs come with a variety of accessories. While basic gaming chairs are only a rocking chair, more advanced models have cup holders, racks for games, and holders for controllers. Some chairs may even have speakers up near the gamer's head rest, allowing the user to plug the game console's audio cables into it and producing a surround sound effect.
Vibration
-
Advanced chairs may be equipped with vibrating technology, known as D-box technology. D-box technology will vibrate the chair in correlation with the action taking place on the screen, just as many game controllers have been doing since the mid-'90s. This technology may also be applied to various movies. For example, the Blu-Ray release of the 2008 version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is encoded with D-box technology, meaning it can be synced to certain vibrating gaming chairs.
Retailing
-
Gaming chairs can either be purchased at retail electronics stores like Best Buy or GameStop or can be purchased online direct from manufacturers. Many manufacturers may offer custom gaming chairs, allowing users to select various options before ordering. Basic gaming chairs can be priced as low as $50, while more advanced models can reach upwards of $500.
