Dyson DC14 Vs. DC15

Dyson vacuum cleaners are marketed on the idea that they never lose suction. According to Dyson, the vacuums use “patented cyclone technology” to spin dirt into a bagless canister. The DC14 and DC15 are different series of vacuum cleaners, and each series has different vacuum models. Each of the models is similar with slight differences for certain cleaning purposes. The DC14 and DC15 are older model vacuum cleaners; in 2010 Dyson is selling the DC28 series upright vacuum. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Dyson DC14 Basics

    • The DC14 was the second Dyson model sold in the United States. It is an upright vacuum and was the first Dyson to feature a telescopic wand. According to Dyson, the vacuum can be used on all floor types and contains a lifetime HEPA filter. The wand on DC14 models extends to 17 feet, unlike the previous DC07 series, without extra attachments.

    Dyson DC14 Models

    • The DC14 series was marketed in nine different vacuum models. The most popular models were the DC14 Telescope Reach All Floors and DC14 Telescope Reach Animal. Other DC14 models include the Drive, Low Reach, Total Clean, Full Kit, Full Gear, Full Access and Complete. The major difference between each of the DC14 models is the color of the casing and the attachments that come with the vacuum. Replacement parts are still available from the manufacturer, according to Dyson.

    Dyson DC15 Basics

    • The DC15 series has all of the features of the DC14 and was the first to use Dyson’s ball design. According to Dyson, the ball makes the upright vacuum easier to maneuver because it does not have wheels that just go forward and back; the ball pivots and changes direction with little effort. The DC15 was also the first model to use two motors--one for suction and another to power the brushbar.

    Dyson DC15 Models

    • There were four models marketed as part of the DC15 series. The DC15 All Floors and DC15 Animal were the most-sold models. The DC15 Total Clean and DC15 Full Kit were also available. DC15 owners can still buy DC15 parts and accessories directly from Dyson.

    Buying a Dyson DC14 or DC15

    • The Dyson DC15 is no longer sold new directly from the manufacturer. Refurbished vacuums can be found at other retailers, and some locations may still have floor models for sale. The DC14 (Telescope Reach All Floors model only) and newer model Dyson vacuums are available for sale from retailers and directly from Dyson. The DC14 retails for $399.99 as of 2010, according to Dyson.
