A web architect connects web designers with marketing and technology personnel to build and design internal and external websites for information technology (IT) companies. These are websites to help IT companies sell their products to consumers and other companies. Web architects are at the pinnacle of web designing and technology and their expertise is in demand for companies that need to establish e-commerce sites.
At the very least, web architects must have a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or computer science, with a minimum of 8 years of work experience in different computer applications. Many employers prefer a master’s degree. Some of these include leadership positions in designing and integrating systems for Microsoft Windows NT server or UNIX. Web architects also need a background in database administration and knowledge of data-mining and warehousing techniques as well as software development experience. Web architects must continually update themselves on the latest developments in computer software and web technology and be able to quickly adapt them for use in their own work.
Web architects are at the peak of their field. They may move into managerial positions or start their own IT business. Those who continue to learn about new developments will have the best opportunities.
According to payscale.com, the annual wage for web architects ranges from $61,551 to $103,085. Most employers offer lucrative benefit packages and many offer perks as well.
Web architects work in a climate-controlled office setting designing a variety of software technology. Web architects can find themselves in stressful situations as they have tight deadlines that must be met. Having good people skills is a plus, as they will be working as a team and collaborating with managers, clients and senior staff members.
