Microsoft Office Project 2007 Tutorial Guide
Microsoft Project 2007 is project management software used by project managers to track, schedule and manage projects including resources, tasks, workload and budget. You can set a baseline for a project, ensure that the project is on track and evaluate project status.
-
Save a Baseline for a Project
-
The project manager needs to fully develop an original project plan, or baseline plan, that includes schedule, duration, costs, tasks, assignments and resources of a particular project. You then need to save this information in Microsoft Project so you will be able to compare the baseline to the actuals later and determine the success of the project.
Track a Project
-
Once a project gets rolling, use Microsoft Project to record the status of how work is proceeding, including whether all of a project's tasks have been started and completed as scheduled. You will be able to see a progress chart of how much of each task has been completed.
-
Enter the Completion Percentage of a Task
-
For each task, you may record its progress using a percentage. Then Microsoft Project will calculate duration of a task based on its start date. You can quickly record tasks using the Tracking toolbar. You will be able to easily see remaining duration of tasks.
Enter Actual Values for Tasks
-
Instead of recording task duration by percentage, you may record the actual values for a task, including its actual start, completion and duration values. Microsoft Project 2007 will update the schedule accordingly and let you know the updated percentage of task completion.
Evaluate Project Status
-
Many projects, especially large ones, will vary from the baseline plan. Use Microsoft Project 2007 to keep a close track of your project and task completion. If you notice a great deal of variance from the baseline plan, use good communication and resource planning to mitigate those issues as soon as you notice them to ensure the success of your project.
